Chromium-based conversion coatings provide outstanding corrosion protection on aluminum, as well as excellent adhesion properties under organic coatings. Chemetall has a wide selection of products to meet your pretreatment needs.
Gardobond C 4714/Gardobond C 4715 form a chromium-phosphate coating with excellent paint adhesion and corrosion resistance. This coating will meet all AAMA specifications.
Used full strength, Chromicoat L25 RTU is sprayed on aluminum parts or surfaces which cannot be chromated in immersion tanks or spray cabinets; it can also be sprayed on previously chromated surfaces that have become scratched and it is a good touch up for anodized surfaces.
Metalast TCP-HF is a chromium (III) conversion coating that is ROHS, WEEE, and ELV compliant. Metalast TCP-HF meets MIL-DTL-5541; Class 1A and 3 Method A, B, C.
Non-Chrome Coatings
Due to the increasing cost of chrome disposal, as well as its environmental and health ramifications, non-chrome coatings are becoming increasingly popular in the aluminum finishing industry. Chemetall's non-chrome coatings will provide corrosion resistance and aid in the adhesion of organic coatings under a wide variety of process conditions, and are capable of meeting all AAMA specifications.
OXSILAN AL-0500 is a silane-based product suited for the processing of aluminum and its alloys, as well as magnesium alloys and galvanized steel prior to painting. It also provides some unpainted corrosion protection. OXSILAN AL-0500 has been extensively tested by the U.S. Military and has received approvals for use on certain military and commercial items.
Permatreat 617M is a liquid formulation used to produce a corrosion-resistant, organic bonding conversion coating on aluminum extrusions and fabricated aluminum parts. After application, the coating is allowed to dry on the metal surface without rinsing prior to painting.
When used on aluminum and aluminum alloys, Gardobond X 4707 produces a non-chrome conversion coating that enhances the performance of subsequently-applied organic coatings such as powder paints for architectural applications, clear coatings for aluminum wheels and paints for the military. Gardobond X4707 has a TACOM approval and fulfills AAMA requirements for architectural aluminum.
Gardobond EPP is a high-performance, non-chrome conversion coating process. It is particularly versatile in that it is also capable of coating ferrous and zinc substrates.
