Non-Destructive Testing

Penetrants, emulsifiers, and developers for non-destructive testing, which aid in inspection without causing any damage, are a part of Chemetall's product line. Visible Penetrants (Type II)

Visible penetrants are not rated by sensitivity but are generally considered equivalent to Level 1. Chemetall's visible penetrants provide crisp indication, low residual background and temperature stability at a low cost.
Flash point: >200°F (93°C) minimum, ASTM D113 (PMCC)
Apply by: Aerosol, brush, tank immersion, conventional, electrostatic, spray
Approvals: AMS 2644 (Type II, Methods B and C), A.E.C.L., ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code
To be utilized in conjunction with non-aqueous developers such as Ardrox 9D1B or Ardrox NQ1, Ardrox 996 is a post-emulsifiable visible penetrant.
Flash point: >200°F (93°C) minimum, ASTM D113 (PMCC)
Apply by: Aerosol, brush, tank immersion, conventional, electrostatic, spray
Approvals: AMS 2644 (Type II, Methods A and C), NAVSEA 250-1500-1, ASME Pressure Vessel & Boiler Code
Ardrox 906 is a visible, water-washable penetrant that is to be used with non-aqueous developers such as Ardrox 9D1B or Ardrox NQ1.

Fluorescent Penetrants (Type I)

Chemetall's fluorescent penetrants have low toxicity and produce bright, crisp indications with low residual background. They are resistant to heat and UV fade as well as overwash.
Flash point: 200ºF (93ºC) minimum, ASTM D113, (PMCC)
Sensitivity: Level 2
Apply by: Brush, tank immersion, conventional, electrostatic spray
Approvals: AMS 2644 (Type l, Methods A and C), General Electric, Rolls Royce, McDonnell Douglas, Boeing, Pratt & Whitney and Rockwell (fracture control inspection for B-1 aircraft applications), ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (Section V, Article 6) and AECL.
Ardrox 970P24 is used primarily for the inspection of metal components during manufacture and overhaul.
Flash point: 350ºF (177ºC), PMCC
Sensitivity: Level 3
Apply by: Aerosol, brush, tank immersion, conventional, electrostatic spray
Approvals: AMS 2644 (Type l, Methods A and C), General Electric, Rolls Royce, McDonnell Douglas, Boeing, Pratt & Whitney and Rockwell (fracture control inspection for B-1 aircraft applications), ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (Section V, Article 6) and AECL.
Water-washable Ardrox 970P25E is specially designed for fracture critical control inspection.
Flash point: 200ºF (93ºC) minimum, ASTM D113, (PMCC)
Sensitivity: Level 2

Ardrox P133D is a water-washable, solvent-based formulation intended for inspection of metal components during manufacture and overhaul.
Flash point: 350ºF (177ºC), PMCC
Sensitivity: Level 2

VOC-free Ardrox P134E is used for fracture critical control inspection.

Another penetrant used for fracture critical control inspection is Ardrox P136E, which is VOC-free.
Flash Point: 350°F (177 °C) PMCC
Sensitivity: Level 3 when used with Ardrox E1 emulsifier

An inspection penetrant developed for fracture critical control inspection, Ardrox P7F3 is post-emulsifiable and VOC-free.
Flash point: >200º F (93ºC) minimum, ASTM D113, (PMCC)
Sensitivity: Level 1
Apply by: Brush, tank immersion, conventional, electrostatic spray
Approved by: AMS 2644 (Type l, Methods A and C), ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (Section V, Article 6) and AECL.
Ardrox 970P22 is a water-washable, VOC-free penetrant.

Emulsifiers

These are products that minimize background fluorescence on part surfaces and reduce excess penetrant from hollow parts.
Flash Point: >220°F (104°C)
Apply by: Immersion
Approvals: ASTM E-165, Boeing BAC 5433, AECL Rockwell, General Electric, Rolls Royce, McDonnell Douglas PS21202, Garrett EMS 52309E, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (Section V, Article 6), and AMS 2644 (Type I, Methods A and C).
Ardrox 9PR3 is a lipophilioc (Method B) emulsifier formulated for use with the Ardrox 985 series of post emulsifiable fluorescent penetrants.
Flash Point: >200°F (93°C) PMCC
Apply by: Immersion, spray, foam
Approvals: AMS 2644, General Electric, Garrett EMS 52309E, AECL, NAVSEA 250-1500-1, McDonnell Douglas, Boeing BAC 5433, Rockwell International, ASTM E-165, Rolls Royce, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (Section V, Article 6).
Ardrox E1 is a VOC-free, biodegradable, hydrophilic (Method D) emulsifier that can be diluted with water.

Developers

Used to develop any approved fluorescent penetrant.
